The need to "detox" is often debated in nutrition circles. The argument against detoxing is that it implies that our detoxing organs (namely the liver, kidneys, and digestive system) are designed for this function and don't need any additional support.

I find this to be both true and shortsighted at this same.

By this, I mean that yes, our organs are designed to do that and are constantly working on it. But they're also simultaneously under stress by environmental factors, dietary choices, and our hyper-stressed lifestyles.

That last part sounds like a dire warning, and yet what I'm offering you via my 7-Day Sugar Detox is an information-guided, simple approach to "detoxing" in the area of the low-hanging fruit (pun intended) of added sugar in your diet.

Why a Sugar Detox?

Research continues to show excess sugar consumption is linked to major diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, and certain cancers. But the bodily assaults don't end there. Too much added sugar also:

  • increases belly fat
  • disrupts your microbiome
  • ages you
  • weakens the immune system

...and perhaps most noticeably, sends your body on a rollercoaster ride of blood sugar ups and downs that makes shedding body fat more difficult and keeps you in a constant craving cycle.

One of the changes I made in 2021 to my diet was detoxing off of added sugar and honestly, I've never felt better (which is saying a lot for a woman who went through 12 weeks of chemo and 6 1/2 weeks of radiation.)

I've virtually eliminated my intense afternoon carb and sugary-snack cravings and am feeling less bloated than ever before.

What I realized after weaning myself off of added sugar almost completely is that it's not as difficult as you think. BUT it does require some nutrition knowledge and in many cases, some nutrition support via supplements that aim to nourish the body and recapture a healthier digestive system.
