Sourdough Discard Orange Quick Bread

  • 2 1/2 (300 g) cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups (315 g) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) oil
  • 1/2 cup (135 g) sourdough discard*
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/2 cup (120 g) Florida Orange Juice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 24 tablespoons Florida Orange Juice 


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat TWO (8-inch) loaf pans with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. 
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, oil, eggs, orange juice, sourdough discard, sour cream, orange zest and vanilla. Pour liquid ingredients into bowl with dry ingredients; stir just until combined. 
  4. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans. 
  5. Bake for 40 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove to a wire rack to cool completely. 
  6. Combine powdered sugar and remaining orange juice; drizzle over cooled bread.


*If you want to bake this recipe and aren’t currently nursing a sourdough starter like 99.9% of folks on Instagram right now, all you have to do is add 1/4 cup more Florida Orange Juice and 1/4 cup more all-purpose flour and omit the sourdough starter.
